Falcon Trio Collects MASCAC Weekly Awards
Kibler, Muolo and Fahey earn POW honors in respective sports
FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 21, 2012) – Fitchburg State had three student athletes earn MASCAC Player of the Week honors as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Seniors Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) and Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) swept the MASCAC Track and Field Weekly awards after pacing the Falcons at the DIII New England Championships, while sophomore Amy Fahey (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) continued her outstanding play on the hardwood, earning MASCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors.
On the track, Kibler earned Division III All-New England honors and qualified for ECAC Championships with sixth place finish in the 3,000m run (8:38.32), while Muolo garnered a pair of accolades, finishing fourth in the weight throw (17.86m) and fifth in the shot-put (14.85m).
On the court, Fahey led Fitchburg State to a 1-1 week, averaging 26.5 ppg and 7.5 rebounds per contest. The sophomore forward tallied a 27 point, seven rebound effort in an 81-54 victory over MCLA, while adding 26 points and eight caroms in 71-56 setback to Westfield State on Saturday afternoon.
The Fitchburg State women’s basketball team will be back in action this evening as it travels to MCLA for the MASCAC Quarterfinals at 7 p.m. The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams will be back in action on Friday as they compete at the All-New England Championships at 4 p.m.
