Falcon Trio Named Players Of The Week

Bartlett, White take NEWLA POW honors; Desrochers snags MASCAC weekly award

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 10, 2012) – The Fitchburg State athletic department had three players received Player of the Week honors as announced by their respective conferences Monday afternoon.

Junior Jessica Bartlett (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) and freshman Lindsay White (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) were honored by the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA), while sophomore Zachary Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell Tech) received a MASCAC weekly honor.

Bartlett earned her first NEWLA Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Fitchburg State women’s lacrosse team to a 2-1 week. Bartlett totaled 11 goals, six draw controls and three groundballs on the week, including a seven-goal effort in a 20-10 victory over Worcester State. The junior attack also added four scores in a 13-11 conference win over Salem State.

Joining Bartlett on the list of NEWLA award winners was Lindsay White, who earned NEWLA’s Rookie of the Week honor. In the Falcons 2-1 week, White totaled 13 points with nine goals and four assists, including a pair of six point efforts in victories over Worcester State (20-10) and Salem State (13-11). The freshman attack lifted the Falcons to their win over Salem, scoring two goals in the last five minutes of play to complete Fitchburg State’s come from behind victory.

Rounding out the list of award winners was Zachary Desrochers, who claimed the MASCAC’s Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after notching a NCAA Championships performance at the University’s Jim Sheehan Memorial. Desrochers potentially qualified for the NCAA Championships with a second place finish in the hammer throw, collecting a toss of 55.71m.

The Fitchburg State women’s lacrosse team (5-5, 3-1 NEWLA) will be back in action on Thursday as it visits Curry College at 6:30 p.m. The Falcons men’s and women’s track teams will compete at the University of New Hampshire this coming weekend.
