Derek Shell: Head Coach (Third Season; 23-28)
Shell enters his 3rd season this winter as the head coach of the Falcons. Shell’s Falcons went 16-10 this past season, including an 8-4 record in the MASCAC and a trip to the ECAC Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament where they were upended by Husson College in the opening round. The 16 victories for the Falcons marked a 9 game improvement over the previous season. Shell was named MASCAC Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2007-2008 season.
Prior to taking over as head coach of the Falcons, Shell served as an assistant coach for three seasons under former head coach Shawn Conrad. Shell’s teams pride themselves on hustle and hard work as the Falcons under Shell have developed a reputation for being one of the hardest working teams in New England.
Shell has
been involved in high school, college, and professional basketball
for the past 17 years. Shell currently resides in
Fitchburg.
Cesaire is in his second season as assistant coach of the Fitchburg State men's basketball team.
Cesaire comes to Fitchburg State after serving as the assistant varsity coach at Leominster High School from 2000 to 2007. In addition to his coaching experiences at the high school level, Cesaire has also served as a camp couselor in the Leominster High basketball camp while also coaching Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Central Massachusetts Hawks.
Cesaire is also in his fourth season as a member of the Falcons football coaching staff. Cesaire is the co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. Cesaire also played his college ball at Fitchburg State, graduating in 2005 after a standout career.
Cesaire was a three-year starter for the Falcons, and a two-year captain (2003 and 2004). Cesaire is the school's all time leader in receptions (132), all-time touchdown receptions (16) and was honarable mention all conference in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Cesaire was also a Worcester Area All-Star in 2002, when he was named to second team, and in 2003 and 2004, when he was named first team.
Cesaire lives with his wife Dianne, and his daughters Yazmine
(10) and Gabrielle (2) as well his newborn son Quentin.
Rusty Frederick is in his sixth season as an assistant coach of the Fitchburg State men's basketball team.
Before joining the Falcons, Frederick served as an assistant coach fo the Leominster High School under legendary coach Ron Mazzaferro. An alum of the school, Frederick was a three-sport standout, lettering in basketball, baseball and football.
Frederick graduated from Quinsigamond Community College. He was a member of the basketball and baseball teams.
Her currenly resides in Leominster, Mass. with his wife and
three kids.
