Fitchburg State Smashes Records At All-New England’s
Kibler break school’s 3000m record; Ladies DMR crack Falcon record books
FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 25, 2012) – Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams were in action this weekend as they competed in the All-New England Championships hosted by Boston University.
Senior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) stole the show for the Fitchburg State men’s squad as he smashed a school record in the 3000m with a 13th place finish and also notched a 17th place effort in the 5000m. Kibler etched his name in the program record books with a blistering time of 8:34.97 in the 3000m while adding a time of 15:07.42 in the 5K.
Classmate Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) also had a strong weekend for the Falcons, as the senior thrower competed in two events. Muolo earned his best finish of the competition in the weight throw (5th) with a toss of 17.81m, while adding a 12th place showing in the shot-put with a distance of 14.91m.
Rounding out the men’s participants was the Falcons distance medley relay of Max Rocheleau (400), Will Lary (800), Jim Quinlan (1200) and Brandon Davis (1600). The foursome qualified for the ECAC Championships posting a time of 10:32.47 for 31st overall.
On the women’s side, Fitchburg State also broke a school record, as the ladies distance medley relay (DMR) cracked the record books with a time of 13:05.07. Rachel Blanchard (400), Kat Marrone (800), Bralia Roy (1200) and Jenae Harrison (1600) each ran a leg for the Falcons.
Sophomore Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) also joined a list of top performers, qualifying for the ECAC’s in the 500m with a 15th place finish and time of 1:20.51, while freshman Arthina Roberts (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Voc Tech) posted a time of 8.20 in the 60m dash.
Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams will be in action next weekend as they compete at the ECAC Championships.
