Fitchburg State Races At ECAC Championships
Desrochers earns two, All-ECAC nominations; Relays spark the Falcon women
TROY, N.Y. (May 19, 2012) – Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the ECAC Championships this past weekend hosted by RPI.
On the men’s side, junior Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) ran the 3000m steeple, earning his second best time of his career with a 16th place finish. Larry turned in a time of 9:45.77 over the 3000m event.
Lary also joined the Falcons 4x800 (Lary, Davis, Quinlan, Kibler) who notched their second best time of the year, finishing 11th overall with a 7.54.35 effort.
Sophomore Zachary Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell Tech) was the lone All-ECAC member, placing among the top eight in two events. His best finish of the day came in the discus, placing fifth overall (45.27m), while also finishing seventh in the hammer with a toss of 51.74m.
For the women, junior Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) competed in three events, posting her best finish of the day in the high-jump (1.59m – 10th). She also performed well in the 400m hurdles (67.78 – 16th), while posting a time of 16.66 in the 100m hurdles.
The women’s 4x800 team (Wilkinson, Marrone, Harrison, Merchant) collected their best time of the year with an effort of 9:45.74, while the 4x400 relay (Wilkinson, Merchant, Harrison, Marrone) ran a season’’s best, 4:02.49. The 4x100 relay team (Robert, McClure, Marrone and Merchant) also fared well with a time of 50.42.
Senior Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Monty Tech) also registered her best triple jump of the year, jumping 11.09 meters for tenth place overall. Sophomore Brittany Chace (Foster, R.I./Ponagansett), throwing off grass for the first time this year, threw 33.85 meters finishing 23rd overall. Merchant and freshman Rachel Blanchard (Billerica, Mass./Shawsheen Valley) rounded out the day with times of 26.58 and 26.63 in the 200m respectively.
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams conclude their 2012 season this weekend.
