Fitchburg State Pairs Up Over The Weekend

Kibler takes three titles at Worcester City Meet; Lane shines on women’s side

BOSTON, Mass. (March 31, 2012) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams were in action this weekend, participating in a pair of events that included the Worcester City Meet at Holy Cross and the Tufts University Snowflake Classic.

Senior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) stole the show at the Worcester City Meet, taking a trio of titles in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m events. In the 800m, Kilber collected top honors with a time of 1:59.84, while posting times of 4:04.42 and 15:45.45 in his 1500m and 5000m first place efforts.

Junior Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) also fared well on the track, posting a third place finish in the 5000m (16:22.68) and a fourth place finish in the 1500m (4:12.35), while sophomore Joseph Hollenbeck (Ashby, Mass./North Middlesex) placed third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.72. The Falcons 4x100 relay team wrapped up the top track performance with a third place effort and time of 46.72.

In the field, sophomore Zachary Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell Tech) turned in the top  Falcon performance with a third place showing the Tuft’s discus (42.62m), while newcomer Andre Neita (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Tech Academy) and junior Kimson Jean (Roslindale, Mass./Swampscott) placed fourth and fifth respectively in the long-jump (5.98m) and high-jump (1.81m)

On the women’s side, junior Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) and senior Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Monty Tech) were solid in seven events throughout the day, connecting for top-four finishes in all events. Lane collected a pair of first place performances on the day in both the high-jump (1.52m) and 400m hurdles (1:08.19), while also taking fourth in the pole vault (2.59m).

Merchant notched one title on the afternoon, claiming first in the triple jump with an effort of 10.29m, while also placing second in the long-jump (4.62m), second in the 200m (27.17) and third in the 400m (1:02.26).

On the track, senior Kat Marrone (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central) notched a second place finish in the 3000m steeplechase, posting a time of 13:06.40, while freshman Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) finished second in the 800m (2:31.21) and third in the 1500m (5:12.86).      

Sophomore Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) and freshman Arthina Roberts (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Voc Tech) wrapped up the track performance for the Falcons. Wilkinson turned in a time of 1:03.13 in the 400m (4th), while Roberts finished second in the 100m with a time of 13.70

In the field, freshman Rebecca McClure (Lyndeborough, N.H./Wilton-Lyndeborough) notched a huge personal best in the high-jump, finishing fifth overall with a height of 2.59m. Sophomore Brittany Chace (Foster, R.I./Ponagansett) added a sixth place showing in the Tuft’s javelin with a distance of 35.60m

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams will be back in action next weekend as it hosts the Jim Sheehan Memorial at 11 a.m.
