Fitchburg State Finishes At ECAC Championships
Falcons 4x100 relay posts seventh place finish at ECACs
SPINGFIELD, Mass. (May 16, 2009) - The Fitchburg State men's track team finished a successful 2009 campaign as it battled at the ECAC Division III Championships this weekend hosted by Springfield College.

The Falcons 4x100 relay team posted Fitchburg State's best finish of the Championships, placing seventh overall with a season best time of 42.90. Junior Devon Jennings (Brockton, Mass./Brockton), classmate Alex Ivanov (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle), and senior Peter Tervo (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) paced the Falcons, while sophomore Carlos De La Rosa (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) held down the anchor.
De La Rosa and Ivanov were also solid in other events, registering a ninth and 17th place finish individually. De La Rosa was strong in two events for the Falcons, placing ninth in the long jump (21' 5.25"), while finishing 12th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.33. Ivanov notched a 17th place showing in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.10.
Sophomore Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) led Fitchburg State in the field, finishing 14th overall in the javelin with a toss of 163 feet, six inches. The sophomore standout also notched an 11th place finish in the discus with a throw of 137 feet, 11 inches.
Fitchburg State concludes its 2009 outdoor track season, but junior Alex Ivanov awaits his bid into the NCAA Championship decathlon. At the All-New England Championships, Ivanov provisionally qualified for the NCAAs, posting 6,301 points in the ten-event contest, ranking him among the top 18 competitors in the nation.
