Fitchburg State Performs At All-New England Championships
Muolo earns All-New England honors with fourth place discus finish
DEDHAM, Mass. (May 8, 2010) – Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track team were in action this weekend as they competed at the All-New England Championships hosted by Northeastern University.
Junior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) brought home the Falcons best finish of the day, earning All-New England honors in the discus. Muolo placed fourth overall in the event, tossing the disc 46.91m. He also turned in a strong performance in the shot-put, finishing 19th with a throw of 13.72m.

Sophomore Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Monty Tech) also enjoyed a successful day for Fitchburg State, earning a pair of top-12 finishes in the 100m and 200m dash. Merchant earned her best finish of the weekend in the 100m, placing tenth overall with a time of 12.64, while finishing 12th in the 200m with a time of 25.86. She also added a great effort in the triple jump, earning 11th overall with a jump of 10.73m.
Six other Falcon men were in action this weekend as senior Kyle Callahan (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) and sophomore Donald Trinque (Ayer, Mass./Ayer) both turned in 14th place outings. Callahan was strong in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.76, while Trinque turned in a solid performance in the javelin with a toss of 54.89m.
Senior Devon Jennings (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) completed the field events for Fitchburg State, serving a primary role in the men's long-jump. Jennings finished 21st overall in the event, posting a distance of 6.04m.
Sophomore Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) and senior Denard Mondesir (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) wrapped up the men’s All-New England competitors, battling battled in the 1500m run and 110m hurdles respectively. Kibler finished 24th in the 1500m event, posting a time of 3:59.44, while Mondesir earned a 21st place finish in the 110m hurdles (15.76).
Freshman Shanissa Sampson (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough), classmate Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) and Erin Abbott (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley) were the other Falcons competing on the women’s side. Lane (7th) and Abbott (11th) finished with heights of 1.60m and 1.55m in the high-jump, while Sampson earned a 13th place finishing the javelin with a throw of 34.45m.
Members of the Fitchburg State track and field team will be in action next weekend they compete in the ECAC Championships starting on Friday afternoon.
