Fitchburg State Competes At Terrier Invitational

Falcons rack up post-season honors with DII, ECAC and All-NE awards

BOSTON, Mass. (January 30, 2010) - The Fitchburg State men's and women's indoor track team competed the Boston University All-Division Terrier Invitational this afternoon.

The Falcons men's team continues to register post-season marks as the team qualified for the Division III New Englands, ECACs and All-New England's today. Junior Carlos De La Rosa (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) hit home in all three post season honors, qualifying for DIIIs, ECACs and All NE in the 200 meter dash. He notched a time of 22.67, while also posting a time of 6.89 in the 55 meter dash.

Senior Devon Jennings (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) and sophomore Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) also notched DIII New England marks in the 55 meter dash (6.74) and the mile run (4:24:88) respectively, while newcomer Mike Iasevoli (Ayer, Mass./Ayer) qualified for both DIIIs and ECACs in the 200 meter sprint (22.90).

The Falcons distance medley team wrapped up the post-season nominations this afternoon as the team of Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock), Jimmy Petersen (Groton, Conn./Fitch), Everett Panky (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) and Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) finished with a DIII time of 10:54.12.

On the field side, senior Kyle Callahan (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) continues to shine, notching a 41 foot, 1 inch distance in the triple jump. Callahan was also followed by fellow Stoneham native, Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) who posted a weight distance of 48 feet, 1.75 inches and shot-put throw of 12.91 meters.

Fitchburg State also received personal best efforts from several members as Lary (2:39.97 1000m), Albert Wong (2:44.27 in 1000m), Matt Claar (1:09.44 500m), and Tim Wood (2:01.59 800m) all competed strong.

On the women's side, the Falcons received some post-season efforts as sophomore Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Monty Tech) lowered her DIII qualifying time of 7.61 in the 55m dash. Freshman Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) also sought after the post-season in a pair of events, qualifying for DIIIs in the 55m hurdles (9.46) and high-jump (5'-1").

Rounding out the top Falcon runners were junior Ali Landry (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) who tallied a time of 66.26 in the 400m run, and senior Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) who notched a 6:05.17 mile.

Senior Lindsay Suprenant (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) continued her success in the throwing competitions, totaling a distance of 39 feet, 2.5 inches in the weight, while freshman Megan Gonzalez (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) tossed a personal college best of 33 feet, 1.5 inches in the shot.

The Fitchburg State men's and women's track team will be in action next weekend as it travels to Tufts University at 11 a.m.
