Burns Tabbed NEWLA Rookie of the Week
Weymouth, Mass. native collects first collegiate weekly honor

FITCHBURG, Mass. (March 17, 2009) - Freshman Amanda Burns (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) was tabbed the New England Women's Lacrosse Association's (NEWLA) Rookie of the Week as selected by conference officials on Monday.
Burns earns her first collegiate weekly honor as Fitchburg State opened its 2009 season at the "Spring Fling" in West Palm Beach, Florida. Burns welcomed herself to the collegiate sports atmosphere, posting nine goals in her first two contests as a Falcon. The talented rookie opened the 2009 campaign with five goals in a 21-12 setback to Ohio-Wesleyan, while posting four scores in a 12-8 loss to Emerson College.
Burns currently ranks first on the Falcons squad with nine points on the season. She has posted a team-high six groundball pickups and three caused turnovers, while registering a team-best, 14-of-18 face-offs. For her efforts, Burns was also named Fitchburg State's "Soaring Falcon" of the Week.
Fitchburg State will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts the University of Southern Maine at 3 p.m.
