Fitchburg State Runs Past Sweet Briar, 20-9
K. Kelley leads Falcons to second victory with game-high six points
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (March 18, 2010) – Junior Kaitlyn Kelley (Pepperell, Mass./North Middlesex) registered a game-high six points as Fitchburg State ran past Sweet Briar College, 20-9 in West Palm Beach, Florida this morning.

Kelley led all Falcon scorers, posting six points on four goals and two assists. Sophomore Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) was also strong with four markers in the contest, while freshman Jamie Kelley (Pepperell, Mass./North Middlesex) added four points with three scores and one dish.
Senior Emily Swan (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) enjoyed a solid day on the offensive end for Fitchburg State as well, totaling four points with two goals and two assists, while senior Tori D’Amato (Hampden, Mass./Merrimack) rounded out the Falcons top scorers with two tallies and one helper.
Fitchburg State dominated from the start of the contest, unleashing for 11 goals in the first half to grab a six score advantage at the break. D’Amato started the Falcon scoring just 1:13 into the contest, leading Fitchburg State to a quick 5-1 lead at the 21:21 mark. The Falcons continued to pour on the offense, touching the back of the net six more times, including five straight markers for a 12 minute span. The Kelley sisters led Fitchburg State’s first half attack with five markers combined, while Finamore added a trio of goals.
In the second half, Fitchburg State continued to soar, posting nine more goals throughout the frame. K. Kelley and Swan ignited the Falcons with two scores over a seven second span, while junior Connie Perry (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) wrapped up the Falcons scoring with her first marker of the season.
Between the pipes, junior Elizabeth Rubin (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) earned the victory, stopping eight shots in her complete game effort, while Vixen keeper Happy Lathrop (Lake Oswego, OR/St. Mary’s) stopped 12 shots for Sweet Briar.
Fitchburg State (2-1, 0-0 NEWLA) returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts Smith College at 5 p.m. Sweet Briar (2-5, 0-0 DAC) will travel to Ferrum College on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
